Afssaps letter of 20 June 2001 to MEDTRONIC informing it of the intention to suspend the placing on the market and use of the TALENT LPS standard abdominal range endoprosthesis for the endovascular treatment of infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms. Vu. MEDTRONIC's replies dated July 6 and August 3, 2001. Seen. the meetings of 17 July and 24 September 2001. Recital. the pre-clinical and clinical data provided by the manufacturer do not provide sufficient assurance as to the efficacy and safety of the TALENT LPS stent.     “If our surveillance systems identify a potential performance issue, our personnel promptly evaluate the problem, including, when appropriate, conducting root cause investigations and internal testing to assess whether the product continues to meet specifications and defined performance criteria,” Medtronic told ICIJ in a statement. “In some cases, based on this evaluation, Medtronic may determine that a recall is necessary.” The company said that it communicates with healthcare providers and/or patients and provide recommendations to address such issues. Medtronic noted that these communications can include letters, emails, calls, press releases, physician notifications and social media postings, as well as informing the FDA and other regulators of the actions.
